Volunteer Opportunities
Whether you’re looking to complete a service requirement, want to help out at one of our events, or are looking to contribute skills to our mission on a long-term basis, we welcome your interest! At our busy community center, the possibilities are almost endless and all contributions are valued.
Event Volunteers
Are you a behind-the-scenes person? There is a lot that goes into preparation for our events and we could use your help leading up to events and/or with physical set-up. If you enjoy interacting with the public, we can also use your help facilitating during events!
Opportunities include:
- Set up – Arrive at 6am and help unload plants from the truck and carry them to the designated spot. Approx 1.5 hours
- Cashier – Adding up purchases and collecting payments. Help needed 7:30am – 2pm
- Plant expertise – Requires knowledge of plants to help guide people with purchases and answer questions. Help needed 8am – 2pm
Opportunities include:
- Selling printed maps – Sitting near the road where cars pull up to purchase printed maps.
- Directing parking – There are vendors on our lawn and therefore also parking. If it is busy, for safety we need to direct people where to park.
On the Brimfield Common
Wednesdays 6 – 8 pm
Opportunities include:
- Helping at Hitchcock’s information table.
- Walking through the audience distributing the evening program/brochure.
Opportunities include:
- Helping set up for the tournament including raffle display and selling raffle tickets. Help needed 10am – 11:30am.
- Overseeing on-course contests: during the tournament there are contests at different holes. Some require a non-player(s) to witness the winners. On-course volunteers who are comfortable driving a golf cart are preferred.
A few hours of your time makes a big difference during flea market weeks!
Opportunities include:
- Waving a flag to draw attention.
- Collecting parking fees.
- Directing cars to available spots.
Additional Opportunities
Flyer Display & Distribution
Do you have a place where we can display our event and class flyers and posters? We would be happy to email them to you to display.
Do you like getting out and about and driving around? Flyers are still a fantastic way for us to get the word out about our classes and programs. Many businesses allow them to be posted, but we are unable to routinely get them delivered in a timely manner. Can you help? We will provide printed copies, tacks, tape, and a list of posting locations.
Grant Writing
Are you a writer? As we strive to continue bringing new programs and offerings to Hitchcock, we can use help with researching and writing grants. Developing proposals to meet requirements can be time-consuming and challenging. Strong writing skills are a critical element in the process and experience with grant writing is a major plus.
Committees
We have several committees, including Scholarship; Investment/Finance; Buildings & Grounds; and Fundraising/Marketing, along with various subcommittees, whose work is essential to our operations. We are always open to considering talented individuals who can lend their expertise and time to Hitchcock through committee/subcommittee work.
After School Offerings
We are interested in developing after school programming for area youth. Are you passionate or experienced in this area? Do you have a great idea, or connections to help engage youth in the development of an initiative to help fill that need?
Board of Trustees
Trustees safeguard the mission of Hitchcock Free Academy and guide its growth by contributing vital skills and experience in a variety of areas, including nonprofit administration, business, finance, marketing, historical preservation, and maintenance. Trustees are expected to participate actively in committee work in their given area(s) of expertise. Trustees are also ambassadors of Hitchcock’s programs, and enthusiastically share opportunities to experience its offerings with their personal and professional networks.
